Devs have said they're aware of a problem with mouse and keyboard control, and will fix it. I'm aware of more than one problem and I barely use them, so hopefully the "fix" actually fixes the whole problem and doesn't leave you guys still in a mess. |

We have been looking in to this. It would be extremely useful if you could report the settings you are using (sensitivity, smoothing on etc) and the issues you are experiencing with those specific settings. This should help us to isolate specific issues.
Cheers
CCP Wolfman Sixaxis controller.
Sensitivity 70 for both X and Y.
Aim Assist On.
This is ALMOST comfortable for me, except that when I'm turning, I start off turning too slow, and take about a second to get up to speed, and when I've been turning and want to slow down for precise aim, I have to stop completely then start turning again instead of being able to smoothly transition back from fast to slow movement. Also, the minimum turn speed I can manage is too high for high-precision control on the rare occasions that I use longer-range weapons than my usual preference.
If I turn Aim Assist off, aiming turns completely insane as soon as a red gets within about 5m from me. I literally have no control over my turn speed, I spin like a top just by nudging the stick in any direction when there's someone nearby, making precise aim literally impossible.
With mouse control, no matter what settings I use, moving the mouse at a constant speed results in a gradual ramping up of turn speed instead of the constant turn speed that logically should happen. Smoothing doesn't make a difference to this effect, but having smoothing on makes it harder to pull a sharp change in direction, so I turned it off. There's also input lag which occurs regardless of any settings I have.
Basically, most of the problems appear to be directly related to the addition of acceleration and that acceleration apparently being applied to mouse control. Please un-break this. Thanks. |

Turn speed cap needs to be in for mouse aim to be balanced against sixaxis. If people are no longer capped on turn speed, please fix PROPERLY. Thanks. |

In the fighting game community we have people who use custom stick setups all the time to get that extra edge. It's expected that people take responsibility for their own control setups. I don't see any reason why DS3 users should feel more entitled here.
Now let's not turn this into another DS3 vs KB/M cryfest thread. Both our prefered control schemes are currently messed up badly. Exactly. Every single person here has a keyboard and a mouse. Use it. Really?
There's nobody with only a laptop that can't be plugged into the PS3? Nobody has PS/2 mouse and keyboard like the ones I have on the desk behind me? Nobody uses the browser on their PS3 because they don't have a PC?
Are you REALLY sure that's true? Because I'm not. |

Nobody uses the browser on their PS3 because they don't have a PC? Are you REALLY sure that's true? Because I'm not. Cheap KB/M setup, like 20 bucks. A third the price of a DS3 and infinitely more effective. Those guys I mentioned earlier in the fighting game community spend around $150 minimum for a decent stick, and the learning curve is much higher than a KB/M. You guys have it very easy and should not be complaining. A third of the price of the CAME FREE WITH MY PS3... yeah, not so much.
And I learned to play FPS games with Doom. I had to relearn the game when Quake came out. I played a lot of FPS games which had capped turn speeds. It's not part of the current-gen "standard", but that doesn't mean it's not a valid balance mechanism - particularly in light of this game supporting control schemes where you can't legitimately match the turn speeds a mouse can otherwise allow for.
Not limiting turn speed was the core reason why UT3 was broken for cross-platform play, and the core reason why Shadowrun was broken for cross-platform play, and if DUST makes the same mistake, it will be just as broken.
And $20 is infinitely more expensive - literally INFINITELY MORE EXPENSIVE - than the price you're paying for the game. A free-to-play game shouldn't be "free, except you need to buy a non-standard peripheral your console doesn't come with". |
